Boulder
- About 100 volunteer weather observers -- the
people who measure temperature, gauge rainfall and snow
depth, and check for severe weather -- will receive special
recognition in Boulder on April 21.
This will also be a day of briefings and tours. Dr. Thomas
Schlatter, of NOAA’s Forecast
Systems Lab, will talk about Rocky Mountain Weather.
Dr. Erik Rasmussen, of NOAA’s National
Severe Storms Lab, will share his scientific experiences
as a tornado chaser. Visitors will also tour the Space
Environment Center. Helping to build the event are Cooperative
Program Managers at Colorado weather forecast offices in
Boulder/Denver, Grand Junction and Pueblo and Cheyenne,
Wyoming and Goodland, Kansas. NOAA is hosting along with
the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the Colorado
Climate Center at Colorado State University. http://coco-rahs.fsl.noaa.gov/weatherworkshop/
