Tune In January 14th!

Group shot of NCEP group, Al Roker and Willard Scott.
Everyone Joined In as Dr. Louis Uccellini, director of NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Prediction, welcomed Al Roker and Williard Scott to the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center in Camp Springs, Maryland. Filming for the Today Show's 50th anniversary special on January 14 took place there last month. The center provides advance forecast guidance, a 1- to 7- days heads-up, to weather service field offices and private meteorologists across the country. The center is also back-up to the National Hurricane Center and responsible for issuing advisories once tropical systems move inland and pose flooding hazards.

Frank Rosenstein, a center forecaster, works away as Al Roker interviews Bob Ryan, NBC's Washington, DC broadcast meteorologist. The center's emergency services have supported mid-West flood forecasts, storm summaries for tropical cyclones, mitigation after Hurricane Mitch, and forecasts for Mexican and Guatamalan fires. Staff forecasts provide real-time guidance.
