NOAA Welcomes Aspiring Marine Scientists

Ballard High School's new Maritime Academy in Seattle will graduate students in a unique academic environment with a core specialization in marines sciences and technology. Juniors will have maritime industry mentors and, in the summer prior to their senior year, a marine-related paid internship. Interdisciplinary academic study, community outreach, hands-on learning and opportunities to perform scientific research are integrated into the curricula. When Maritime students visited NOAA recently, Scott Gudes (center), welcomed principal Dr. David Engle and student Ben Olsoe. Faculty and students were also greeted by other NOAA staff.
