Hurricane Awareness along vulnerable areas of the Atlantic Coast, a campaign spearheaded by NOAA's National Hurricane Center in Miami, aims to give about 48 million people living within 50 miles of the Gulf and Atlantic coasts a heads-up about hazards and precautions. Renown hurricane hunters from NOAA's Aircraft Operations Center and hurricane experts from the National Weather Service will touch down at five sites, opening the WP-3 Orion aircraft for tours and safety briefings. The team of hurricane experts will also brief local government and emergency management officials. The five stops will include: Portsmouth, New Hampshire (May 7); Dover, Delaware (May 8); Washington, DC, (May 9); Florence, South Carolina (May 10); and Miami, Florida (May 11).
