Kids' Day at Gray's
Reef National Marine Sanctuary in Savannah will be crammed
with hands-on action about near-shore sandstone reefs and
the sea. The Sanctuary itself is a magical place. More than
14,000 years ago, when enormous bison and camels roamed
Georgia's rolling coastline, that coastline extended 60
miles east of the current coast. Today the ancient coastline
is submerged within the Sanctuary's flourishing boundaries,
and home to grouper, black sea bass, mackeral, angelfish,
and many schools of fish. Cathy Sakas, cathy.sakas@noaa.gov.
