Team
Member of Month
Honored For Service to NOAA
and the Nation
For
many outstanding reasons, James Ramer, of Colorado State University,
is NOAA's new Team Member of the Month. James is a research
associate at the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere
on the Ft.Collins, Colorado campus.
James was cited by NOAA Research
for excellence on five levels -- his deep understanding of the
science of meteorology; clear comprehension of the needs of operational
forecasters; exemplary knowledge of real-time computer software
and systems; exceptional work ethic; and great team spirit.
His
powerful combination of skills and knowledge has been a strong
contributor to the design and development of the core software
created by the Research
Forecast Systems Laboratory for the Advanced Interactive
Processing System (AWIPS). His talents and commitment have
increased the efffectiveness of day-to-day operations of National
Weather Service forecast offices nationwide.
Almost
singlehandedly, James designed and developed some of the most
important and heavily used components of AWIPS. These include
both tools and techniques used to display an almost unlimited
combination of numerical model fields and the Warning Generation
Application, which has revolutionized and accelerated the
way forecasters issue severe weather warnings to the public.
James is being honored for his contributions to NOAA, the
success of AWIPS, and critical service to the nation.
