Raymond
Mitchell
Office of Marine and Aviation Operations
“His dedication to the job has made a real difference.”
Raymond
Mitchell, computer specialist at NOAA’s Office of Marine and Aviation
Operations, is known for keeping customers satisfied and never keeping
them waiting. Since May 1998, he has provided outstanding service to
OMAO’s headquarters and Commissioned Personnel Center. Last year
he also began supporting staff of the newly created the Fisheries Survey
Vessel Acquisition Program.
Anyone at OMAO who has experienced a computer problem
has benefitted from Ray’s expertise, quick response and good nature.
He has resolved many issues for OMAO management and staff -- often in
hours or days instead of weeks. His trademarks are prompt response,
attention to detail, insight to the inner workings of IT systems and
providing quick solutions.
Ray came
to NOAA with excellent credentials. After retiring from the Navy, he
worked for the State Department and White House from 1995 to 1997. When
he began working for OMAO in 1998, he was responsible for arranging
for the migration of the mail system to Netscape. Ray manages OMAO’s
network and provides software and hardware installation with upgrades
and configurations. He works closely with the Network Operations Center
and coordinates information with other NOAA offices. In addition, he
administers a Personnel Document Imaging System and an Oracle database.
Ray’s many achievements include migrating the
OMAO headquarters and OMAO Commissioned Personnel Center offices to
Windows, migrating e-mail to the NOAA Enterprise Messaging System, and
keeping the office running smoothly from an information technology perspective.
As stated in his nomination write-up, Ray’s “dedication
to the job has made a real difference at OMAO.”
