NOAA Aquanaut At Girl Scout Eco-Expo

When about
800 girl scouts and their leaders attended Girl Scout Eco-Expo Day in
Maryland, the special guest at the NOAA booth was senior girl scout Alexis
Kuipergilr. Alexis took part in this summer's Aquarius Project at the
Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Teaming up with NOAA for an innovative
week of ocean science and discovery, the Girl Scouts of the USA selected
a group of "aquanauts" who dove 65 feet under the sea to the Aquarius
habitat. At Eco-Expo Day, Alexis demonstrated her scuba gear and talked
about her experiences.
Belinda Vann, of NWS, helped scouts create tornadoes in
a bottle. NESDIS’s Rob Bassett, Allan Eustis, of NOAA's Environmental
Visualization Program, and Beverly Smith, of Human Resources, also helped
Alexis and her mom showcase NOAA’s work.
