Research chemists Daryle Boyd (left) and Gina Ylitalo showed the Vice Admiral how they prepare sea lion tissues for analyses of persistent organic pollutants. During his trip to Seattle, the Vice Admiral was also briefed about groundfish, the first real-time iridum satellite system that allows us to communicate directly with sea bottom instruments to “put researchers on the seafloor,” and Puget Sound Harbor safety, among many other issues. He also conducted a town hall meeting, met with the Seattle Times editorial board and other press, and published an editorial article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
